Study Design: Case report.
Objectives: To report a case of a 10-year-old female patient with pyogenic sacroiliitis.
Summary of Literature Review: Delayed diagnosis and treatment of pediatric pyogenic sacroiliitis can lead to severe complications, such as abscess and septic shock.
Materials and Methods: A 10-year-old female patient presented with a limping gait accompanied by left buttock pain after
conservative treatment for 3 days without symptomatic improvement. Magnetic resonance imaging showed high signal intensity in the left sacroiliac joint and laboratory examinations showed values that were suspicious for pyogenic sacroiliitis.
Results: After appropriate antibiotic treatment, the patient showed rapid clinical improvement.
Conclusions: Early diagnosis is of critical importance for avoiding septic shock and sequelae such as an abscess or degenerative changes of the sacroiliac joint.
